Weddings are
many things. They are an acknowledgement
of the commitment between two people to build their lives with one another,
they are a bringing together of family and community in an ever scattered
world, they are an opportunity for grown daughters and sons to create with
parents and loved ones a celebration of love and life.
One wedding
that encapsulates all these aspects and many more was Emily and Rishi’s
mountain wedding. I had the great joy of
working with Emily, Rishi, and both sets of parents for over a year to create
this multi-day, uniquely Hindu-American
celebration. The couple respectfully
integrated traditions that were true to them and their families.
For each couple
and family, this is a different process.
I like to encourage graciousness, authenticity, joy and of course
beauty. In cultures across the world,
weddings are a sacred rite of passage or sacrament. How wonderful that we know this in our
deepest self and desire to create a testament, witnessed by those closest to
us, of who we are and who we are becoming.
After a Hindu ceremony officiated by their friend, guests entered an elegant garden reception. You wouldn’t know it by the looks of wedding day, but Classic Event Rental crew was onsite until midnight through a torrential downpour to make tent, draping, and lighting gorgeous for guests. (Side note: when you have a wedding planner, she gets to be there orchestrating all this – not you! We aren’t above getting on our hands and knees to wipe the mud off the dance floor!) Flora captured perfectly the colors and feel we were creating in the design for the reception with the floral. Having a superb vendor team is priceless!
And what are weddings
without love and tenderness, laughter and a few tears. This is why we come together, what we believe
in and risk for. A religious friend once
told me he counseled married couples saying “look at your partner’s hand; that
is the hand that will get you into heaven.”
Our partners loves us into our best and smooth out our rough spots!
Lake Eden Events hosted this beautiful wedding. Nature’s great beauty framed all we created. If you aren’t familiar with the mountains of
Western North Carolina, do yourself the treat and visit us. If you’ve been here, you’ve been blessed. People say the Appalachian Mountains are some
of the oldest in the world. They are timeless
masterpieces.
As night came
on, lights turned up, dancing began in earnest, and a cake was cut (and
smashed!). We at Shay Brown Events wish all our newly married couples
love and life, joy and peace, growth and contentment for all their many years
ahead!
